Something you should know about me is that I grew up on thirteen acres of rural Virginia land. As true country children, my four siblings and I had competitions to see who could walk (or, God forbid, run) barefoot down our quarter-mile gravel driveway. And, as much as I take pride in the toughness gained through that experience (literally and figuratively), it’s no surprise that my feet are not in the best shape fifteen years later…
Prioritizing foot care after making “wild child” my entire personality is complicated, though. Barefoot people will understand that you can’t transition from total toe-freedom to tight socks and restrictive toe-boxes. Yes, we need the comfort and stability of good footwear, but not at the cost of the balance and posture we worked so hard to earn. That’s why I’m obsessed with brands like Tucketts, who blend barefoot living with luxury footwear.

Bare feet not only connect us to the earth’s electric current, they also help improve our flexibility, balance, and movement perception, especially during workouts. Our feet are the anchor to our entire body, after all.
That said, most of us aren’t on board with a socks-optional community pilates class (for good reasons). So toeless grip socks are a happy medium that keeps the hygiene happy while building good foot mechanics.
If you wobble during tree pose, spreading your toes is a good way to build a little more stability.
Keeping our toes out of tight socks and boxy shoes is a good way to maintain healthy posture. Even small misalignments in the feet can throw the entire body off balance.
Feet sweat. But they sweat less when there’s room to breathe.
You’ve got 26 bones in each foot, plus 30 joints and 100 different ligaments. When you maintain natural and functional movement, you work to prevent injuries in the knees, ankles, and even hips.
Exercising with regular socks or shoes may change how you feel a movement. Your body awareness slightly lowers, and it might take longer to nail a pose or target specific muscle groups.
When you work out without shoes, you build natural shock absorption that would otherwise land in your sneaker soles. This allows your feet to be more resilient against outside stress.
Yes, you do get the benefits of earthing even when just your toes are touching the ground. The earth has an electromagnetic current that’s great for calming the body and absorbing inflammation.
Did you know your feet play a key role in how you manage temperature changes? Wearing toeless socks helps your body maintain a more accurate core temperature.
How do Tucketts toeless grip socks stand up? I tested mine for pilates and yoga, and they quickly became something I wear around the house, too. They are the comfiest socks I own and let me nerd out about foot posture and feel cute about it.
You can tell Tucketts is so intentional with their brand, and a cheerleader for happy and healthy feet. They’re women-owned, prioritize sustainability, and support global initiatives like peace-building in Colombia and education for girls in Tanzania. They’re a local Boulder, Colorado brand, and the founder has personal experience with her own pilates studio. Genuinely, you can tell the socks are made by someone who’s spent hours on the mat.
Other toeless grip socks online have individual holes for each toe (the inversion of those toe socks emo kids wore in the early 2000s). Not only are they uncomfortable, but they’re also a challenge to wrestle on your feet before a pilates class. Tucketts only has one toe separator for the big toe. This makes them super easy to put on, keeps the socks in place, and gives your toes room to spread naturally without discomfort or weird separation.
I know, my crunchy side is showing. But since earthing is all about electric current, you only need a smidgen of your body touching the earth to reap the benefits. So if you like the idea of doing yoga in the grass, but not the reality of getting callouses, these will help you ground.
I have low arches, so my socks rarely stay in place. I’m always a little unsure about grip socks, since the grips could end up anywhere else on my foot. But these socks really stay in place well.
I feel just as comfortable wearing these as I do in my bare feet.
They give this a very elegant feel to pilates or yoga practice. It’s like buying a cute new workout set that motivates you to show up more in the gym.
I’ve seen women use these socks for influencer photo shoots and website branding. The socks come in so many colorful options to match brand colors, and keep you from going totally dog’s-out on the internet.
I got the crew style, and they fit perfectly over yoga pants without bunching or falling down.
I didn’t expect the butteriest socks I own to be pilates socks, but here we are. For reference, I have Bombas, Darn Tough, and an abundance of socks from Target.
I mention this because I prefer natural fibers for the health and eco benefits. But the reality of creating a toeless grip sock without a stretchy material like spandex is… rather tricky. Tucketts uses 50% cotton (or more) in all their socks, which speaks to their commitment to quality and function.
The Tucketts brand has a strong focus on foot health and active or preventive foot care. I know, we young people aren’t the ideal audience for this, but we should be. If chronic illness has taught me anything, it’s that preventative care matters. If we’re exercising our bodies for strong bones and muscles as we age, we should exercise our feet, too.
The Foot Exercise Card Deck includes a massage ball and comprehensive exercise instructions for bunions, plantar fasciitis, and flat feet. I appreciate how thorough the brand is, and I’m taking this kit with me on future travels.
